Full description
Even though it was originally built by the Habsburgs after the Revolution of 1848 to overlook and control the city, the Citadella today is an emblematic site of Budapest and the symbol of freedom. It is also an excellent lookout point especially at night with the city lights on display.
The Liberty Statue atop the fortress is a statue of a proud lady, initially erected for the soldiers of the Soviet liberation that today commemorates all those who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Hungary.
